On Sunday 23
September 2007, a large slice (wholemeal, presumably) of central London
was closed to motor traffic, to encourage people to come into
the city centre on their bikes. And what a success it
was: it is estimated that around 50,000 people got on their bikes
and joined the party!

The huge success of the Tour de France Prologue and the Grand
Depart back in July had already demonstrated what an enthusiasm
there is for cycling in London.
Go Pedal supplied bikes at Clapham Common, one of the 'hubs'
where people could join rides into the central party zone.
Everybody had a wonderful day:

The London Freewheel was generally well organised and was
certainly great fun. Many Go Pedal customers were returning to
cycling and really appreciated the opportunity to discover how much
they enjoyed it. We're already looking forward to the
2008 event, which is scheduled for Sunday 21 September.
We at Go Pedal believe an annual event is all very well, but it's
high time there was a more frequent programme of road closures to
give cycling a regular boost. In Paris, they do it every week! Why not in
London?
